THE TREATMENT

There are various needling devices available, but at DAMARIS Wellness Centre we prefer to use the Dermapen, an FDA approved medically engineered device that is proven to provide less discomfort, with minimal to no downtime.
It produces better results than conventional Derma roller treatments because the depth of needle penetration can be altered during treatment and the skin surface can be compromised. This can ensure a completely bespoke treatment plan to minimise discomfort and maximise results around sensitive and not so sensitive areas. Dermapen offers a great precision with treatments. The tip of the pen is small, allowing it to pass closer to the eyes and nose for a more effective treatment. The fast vibration of the Dermapen also helps to reduce discomfort.

WHAT DOES THE TREATMENT INVOLVE?

A full consultation will determine the best course of treatment for you; this may include combinations of deeper and lighter Dermapen treatments, and a range of different active products.
Your skin will be thoroughly cleansed and a topical anaesthetic applied and left for 30 minutes. The needling itself is relatively quick, and is carried out using a single use sterile needle cartridge and following strict guidelines for an aseptic work environment.
Long term results and skin health are achieved by a course of micro-needling treatments, regular advanced clinical facials and accompanied by a preventative, corrective and protective skincare programme.

DOWNTIME

Day 1: Immediately after treatment, you will feel heat, there will be redness and you may have slight puffiness. This varies between people. After an hour or so it calms down and can be likened to deep sunburn. Keep your skin well moisturised and use a fast skin repair cream.
Day 2: A pink light colour persists like moderate sunburn. Light swelling may be noticeable on waking, but this usually subsides as the day goes on.
Day 3: Skin may still be slightly pink. The slight swelling has usually subsided. On subsequent days the skin may feel tight and dry. Use loads of moisturiser. It is not unusual for the skin to be itchy. Your normal skincare programme can be resumed after day 3. Do not introduce the more active products (such as those containing retinoid) for a week.
Appropriate skincare will be recommended on the day of your treatment to help accelerate the healing process, to protect the skin from the environment and to enhance your results.
